Michael D. Lewis MD, MPH, MBA, FACPM, FACN
Dr. Lewis is an expert on nutritional interventions for brain health, particularly the prevention, management, and rehabilitation of concussions and traumatic brain injury (TBI). He is the President of the Brain Health Education and Research Institute, which he founded in late 2011 upon retiring as a Colonel after a distinguished 31 year career in the U.S. Army. His pioneering work in the military and since has helped thousands of people around the world and regularly featured in the media including CNN’s Sanjay Gupta MD show and numerous radio shows and podcasts. He is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and Tulane University School of Medicine. Dr. Lewis is board-certified and a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine. He completed post-graduate training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Johns Hopkins University, and Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. He is currently in private practice in Bethesda, Maryland, and is a consultant to the U.S. Army and Navy as well as several nutrition companies around the world.
Alexandros Makriyannis Ph.D.
Dr. Makriyannis has spent the past two decades inventing and applying chemical, biochemical, and biophysical approaches to study the endocannabinoid signaling system and exploring its therapeutic potential. He obtained his Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry at the University of Kansas and completed postdoctoral training in synthetic organic chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley. He has held positions at Smith, Kline and French Laboratories, and Tufts Medical School and was Distinguished Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and Professor of Molecular and Cell Biology and Pharmacology at the University of Connecticut. He currently holds the George Behrakis Trustee Chair in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at Northeastern University and is Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, and Chemical Biology. In 2005 he established Northeastern University’s Center for Drug Discovery and is the current Director of it. The results of this research are encompassed in over 450 publications and over 40 patents and he is the recipient of numerous awards, including the AAPS Award in Drug Design and Discovery (2002), the ICRS Mechoulam Life Achievement Award in Cannabinoid Research (2006), the Kenneth E. Avis Award in Medicinal Chemistry (2007), the ACS Research Lifetime Achievement Award in Medicinal Chemistry (2012), the Northeastern Award for Excellence in Research and Creativity (2012), and the ACS Medicinal Chemistry Hall of Fame (2013).
Dr. Shunney is in private practice in Santa Cruz, CA where she blends conventional medical diagnosis and treatment with the use of natural therapeutics including dietary and lifestyle counseling, nutritional supplements, herbal medicine, homeopathy, and bio-identical hormones, specializing in women’s health, functional endocrinology, and family medicine. Dr. Shunney graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University with a BA in psychology. After completing her post-graduate pre-med course work, she attended the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon where she received her Naturopathic Medical Degree in 2001. A dynamic educator, radio personality, and writer, Dr. Shunney is on a mission to empower people to take charge of their health with integrative medicine. Whether speaking to health professionals or laypeople, her engaging style, emphasis on patient-centered care, and passionate belief in the health benefits of joyful eating make her an audience favorite. Dr. Ziegenfuss is a renowned sports nutrition and exercise scientist with graduate degrees from Purdue and Kent State University. He is a Past President and Fellow of The International Society of Sports Nutrition and CEO/Co-founder of The Center for Applied Health Sciences. His client list includes natural product and sports nutrition companies as well as current and/or former Olympic and Professional athletes from a wide variety of sports around the world. Dr.Ziegenfuss has more than 600 published articles in mainstream magazines, 35 scientific publications and 8 book chapters, as well as numerous interviews/appearances in top 25 national print/radio media.
Jeffrey AnshelOD, FAAO
Dr. Anshel is a 1975 graduate from the Illinois College of Optometry. He has written numerous articles regarding nutritional influences on vision, stress factors that affect visual performance and computer vision concerns. Dr. Anshel has published six books related to vision in the workplace as well as consumer-friendly reference books. Dr. Anshel is the principal of Corporate Vision Consulting, where he addresses the issues surrounding visual demands while working with computers. He is also the past president and founder of the Ocular Nutrition Society. He lectures extensively on nutrition and vision issues. Dr. Anshel is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and he currently maintains a full service practice in Encinitas, California.
